Very good budget airline

I've used Air Asia to fly all over Asia, from Kuala Lumpur to China, Jakarta and Laos, Kuching to Kota Kintabalu, Chiang Mai to Bangkok and on many other routes. I've found that their flights are consistently smooth, planes look good inside and out and they are usually quite prompt. OK, I'm used to flying on US-based airlines, and anything is better than being stuck on one of those cattle-cars, but even so, for the money, Air Asia is fantastic. The trick is to get your tickets as far in advance as possible, or it isn't nearly as affordable. They run frequent promotions, so check their website daily to see if your destination is on sale. Of course, virtually everything costs more money - from using a credit card to getting a glass of water, so they really do hit you with the extra charges. For some reason, though, they are pretty lenient about carry-on luggage - they'll sometimes allow luggage well over the weight and size limits as carry-ons, and then you don't need to pay extra. They don't have a hub in Vietnam, so you may need to fly to Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur to get to your final destination. However, they seem to frequently add flights, so this may improve over time.

Extra charges notwithstanding, they give a very good value for the money. They used to have flights from Nha Trang, as well as fantastic prices on flights to France and the UK, but they seem to have discontinued those, which is too bad. But their coverage in Asia is quite good. In Vietnam, you can take Air Asia from Hanoi, Danang and Saigon.

It's my airline of choice for Asia. Wish they had more flights globally, but I guess you can't have everything. :-)
