Good Indian food!

Every once in a great while, you try out a new restaurant and discover that it exceeds your expectations. After some disappointing meals at a couple of other Indian restaurants in Hanoi, we thought we'd give Namaste a try. They deliver, and we didn't feel like going out, but our food arrived in just under an hour, still hot and fresh. That it took almost an hour was good - it means that it wasn't all made up in advance and thrown into the microwave when the order came in.

I don't like very spicy food, and ordered their chicken mashuka, which is chicken cooked in a creamy tomato sauce. I had requested that they only spice it mildly, which they did perfectly. We also ordered some palak paneer - spinach with Indian-style cheese in it, and that was also delicious. My only complaint was with the papadams, which were good but a bit expensive considering they just gave us two of them - and the chutney that came with them was, well, not the best that I've ever had.

Can't speak for the restaurant since everything was delivered, but this is a place that I definitely will order from again, and likely will go there next time rather than having it delivered.

So, I'm happy to say that there really is a good Indian restaurant in this town and one worth visiting again. I lived in Malaysia for a couple of years and really do have a good sense of how Indian food should taste, and just hate it when places cater to local tastes. Namaste didn't do this - they kept it authentic (albeit spiced down at my request, but the flavors were all there, just like they should be).

I think our bill was just under 400,000 for the two of us (including saffron basmati rice and another chicken dish), which wasn't bad considering the quality of food and generous portion sizes. In fact, we had enough left over for a second meal the next day. And they don't add an extra charge on for delivery, either. Good place!
